Swizzels Matlow is a confectionery manufacturer based in Derbyshire, United Kingdom. The company employs around 500 people and exports 20 per cent of its sweets to more than 20 countries, mostly in Europe. The most popular brands are Love hearts and Drumstick lollies.
Operations began in the early 1920s at a by way of a market stall in Hackney, London, with Maurice and Alfred Matlow selling jellied sweets, they built a small factory in east London in 1928 and were known as the Matlow Brothers, producing jellies and chews. In 1933 they merged with a rival factory owner, David Dee, who specialised in fizzy compressed tablet sweets, the company was registered as Swizzels Matlow Ltd in 1975.
In 1940 the war forced them to relocate to a factory in Derbyshire were it is still operational today. Love Hearts were introduced in 1954 and Drumsticks in 1957.
Artificial coloring's were discontinued in 2009.
Swizzels Matlow Ltd.'s most popular product are Refreshers. These are chewy sweets with a sherbet centre in lemon and strawberry flavours.
The Drumstick sweet is a chewy lolly pop, it consists of two flavours, milk and raspberry. It has had many special editions including orange and lime flavour.
In 2012 Swizzels Matlow launched a new product in the Drumstick line of sweets called Drumstick Squashies, keeping the same flavours but selling it in a small sweet packet containing multiple foam-like sweets that are 1/3 one flavour, 2/3 another. Products include; Double Lollies, Fruity Pops, Mr Chews, Rainbow Drops, Love Hearts, Double Dip, Fun Gums and Tango Orange Flavour Chew Bars.
